[QUOTE=ollie;260091]Listened to the podcast and it was disappointing to hear Stu’s comments about Charlie. Often wonder what his motivation is in saying such things. It contradicts the whole Zen thing in my mind. Not sure I ever heard Master Po or Master Kahn from the tv show “Kung Fu” dump on anybody.

Well maybe some of these guys are training to be Masters of To be Announced ( if and when it happens?) LOL.

When I re listened it sorta sounded like they were whining and complaining about a man they never met instead of enlightening any of us or inspiring us about their accomplishments, ideas and training?

The Chuckster left us 9 years ago guys on the podcast! Move on, write a book of your own and inspire the shit out of everyone.

He made the mistake of finishing the race (in 45s), which means he ran some 120m on an injured hamstring, which will probably slow down his recovery.
The slowing down and re-accelerating is a dangerous move for anyone. I'm going to guess it's even worse for a young guy who is just getting started and might not have the loose-ness overall to sustain what this effect might have had for him. I agree that this very likely contributed to an injury in the final.

I was thinking today about world-class coaches, and how underrated Charlie's perspective is. As a national and world class athlete himself, Charlie was able to empathize and communicate with such athletes in a unique way. Certainly there are a few great coaches at the elite level who don't have the same personal experience, but I think Charlie's experience gave him a distinct advantage in that manner. Not only that, but he also never used his credentials in a dogmatic way. He wouldn't criticize another coach just because they weren't a world class athlete themselves. If he did criticize, it wasn't based on ego, but based on the facts. We need more coaches today with his humility and honesty.

Another difference from Charlie and some others is that he was with his athletes for the most part from day 1. Some can theorize about the long term development and what to do with athletes in year 1, 4, 7 etc. Most of Charlie's athletes were with him throughout their careers or mostly so. There might be exceptions such as (IIRC) Desai being with him, leaving then coming back but largely CF was not, unlike some coaching "gurus", receiving highly developed, near finished product athletes. It was up to him to actually develop these athletes at all stages.

True and there are a lot of elite athletes over the years who could not make that transition to elite coach and clearly Charlie did not rely (as athletes sometimes do) totally upon what they did as athletes/hand me down workouts etc. He became a true student of the sport, training even going back to his days as an athlete which really accelerated during in his move to coaching.

Not going to derail the thread but.......

I had to stop following because of those tweets. DP is a great man and a great teacher. I don't understand the lack of logic with his political tweets.

I also don't understand why someone wants, say a President to be unsuccessful. They get elected, get over it and hope for the best. I didn't vote for the first time ever but I want the guy to be successful and he largely has been. I certainly leaned more toward Trump than Clinton. I just couldn't pull the trigger.

The whole hysteria and fascist/racist comments are as dumb as those who said Obama was a terrorist. There's no logic behind it, only emotional hysteria and rhetoric.

To some this up.......Dan and Stu need to stick to training and keep the ridiculous political tweets to themselves.

Wow - are you from Oxford Mississippi? I show Donald the same love that 90% of white America gave President Obama. We need more people who look like Dan Pfaff who's willing to stand up for the fight....

    Nope Iím not from there.

I chose to be a logical based critical thinker and try to lay all emotion aside.

If a vast majority of white America didnít support Obama he wouldnít have been elected Twice. Itís mathematically impossible.

Itís ok for people to disagree, in fact itís healthy, just do it from a stand point of a basis and fact, not emotional illogical nonsense. Most republicans and democrats are emotionally driven or selfish/money driven. I donít follow either.
