Re: Training The Master Sprinter 35+

Actuary400m, how's your proximal hamstring feeling now? Do you get any discomfort when you do the exercise demonstrated at 0.25 of this video?

Fair enough. It could be a little difficult to be in the right situation to ask him.

Maybe you should ask Ato if he has any tips for you!

Re: Training The Master Sprinter 35+

None now. Years ago, only in the 100m & 60m. My speed endurance has always been terrible.
I wish my systolic blood pressure was as good as my resting heart rate. It's always in the 135 -150 range....

Re: Training The Master Sprinter 35+

Yes sir. Typically that is my heart rate when taken after I get out of bed in the morning. Later in the day it increases to about 49.

Re: Training The Master Sprinter 35+

I've just been running in place bringing the knees up as high as I would bring them when doing tempo runs. I still feel it in the hip flexors, as I do when tempo running if I'm out of shape.
    When I...

Re: Training The Master Sprinter 35+

No I mean extensive tempo - runs of around 70% intensity. I used to do 6 x 200m with a slow jog for 100m and walk 100m for recovery before doing the next 200m rep. It really gets the heart rate up...

Re: Training The Master Sprinter 35+

Do you older guys find tempo work much more challenging than you did when you were younger compared with high intensity work? As I've got older, I've really struggled with workouts such as 6 x 200m @...

Re: Training The Master Sprinter 35+

Just for a change, you might want to do running in place at varying intensities as a substitute for jump rope sometimes. I've been doing these recently & have found them really good when the weather...

No. I had my plantaris tendon surgically removed because it was contributing to my chronic Achilles pain. The plantaris actually has no function in humans.
I can plantar flex just as forcefully as...

Chris, does FL have any meets in August, or are they all finished by end of July?

Yeah especially when he was jumping out of the pool. Very high risk of slipping, I'd say.

Fair enough, but at least it *may* show that having short Achilles tendons is not necessarily a bad thing for a sprinter to have. It would not entitle a coach or therapist to tell a sprinter that...

Short achilles tendons for faster sprinting

According to this study, it would appear that having shorter Achilles tendons may be more advantageous to a sprinter than having long Achilles tendons, which is the opposite of what many people...

Which exercises cause the most problem for you? For me, it's heavy deadlifts from the floor, stiff leg deadlifts, RDL's, reverse leg press and heavy sled pushing. Heavy sled pushing is actually what...

I've had adductor tendinopathy too. Like proximal hamstring tendinopathy, it only began to feel better when I stopped stretching it and stopped doing side lunges and began doing adductor bridges...

Good points. I think the same can be applied to other tendon injuries. I had a chronic adductor tendon injury, which only went away when I stopped stretching it. There is always a temptation to...
